Charkha Demo & Talk

A demo and Talk was organised for the women at the Tardeo centre. The Charkha - the tool used for hand spinning cotton. Charkha is used to spin fibers. It was popularized by Mahatma Gandhi during the Indian independence movement as a symbol of self-reliance. Gandhi not only saw as a tool allowing each Indian to spin their own cotton to weave cloth easily, but also as a meditative medium. It symbolizes self-sufficiency and freedom. The charkha became the symbol of the swadeshi movement during the Indian freedom struggle. This is because the spinning of the charkha facilitated the development of the textile industry. Meditative importance of charkha is to Increases concentration. Reduce stress and anxiety. The women took great interest in learning the skill of spinning yarn on the traditional way.
