Session on Legal Rights

Majlis is a broad based pluralistic organization encompassing two centers, Legal and Culture. Majlis started in 1991 as a response to a growing need for lawyers with a gender perspective who are dedicated to evolving innovative legal practices to defend women’s rights. They all are women team comprising of lawyers and social activist. Their agenda for social change is – quality legal representation for individual women in court, changing mindsets through advocacy and training and evolving gender just ideology through campaigns and interventions. Majlis helps organizations to create awareness on legal rights and also offer free legal aid to women and children facing sexual and domestic violence. During the session women were detailed information on types of Violence like Domestic and Sexual, educated and disseminated information about laws and legal avenues available to women. It also covered the POSCO Act 2012 formulated in order to effectively address sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children, Sexual Harassment of women at work place and The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005.
