Haldikumkum Celebrations January 2026
Haldi Kumkum is a cherished social and spiritual ceremony in Hindu tradition, especially popular among married women in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, and other western Indian states. Usually celebrated during the auspicious festival of Makar Sankranti, the ceremony involves women inviting friends and relatives to apply haldi (turmeric) and kumkum (vermilion) on each other’s foreheads, symbolizing blessings for a long, healthy married life and marital bliss. Beyond the ritual, Haldi Kumkum holds deep cultural significance as it honors womanhood and strengthens community bonds. Women come together to share joy, exchange gifts and flowers, sing, dance, and celebrate together. At Hamaara Sapna, the women thoroughly enjoyed this vibrant celebration. Many sang bhajans as well as popular Hindi Bollywood songs, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere. Various forms of dance were beautifully demonstrated. One of the most appreciated highlights was a short play performed by the women from the Kandivali Centre, which sensitively portrayed the misuse of mobile phones and conveyed an important social message. The celebration concluded on a delightful note, with everyone relishing delicious snacks and carrying home fond memories of togetherness and joy.
